Whether the 47 year old Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany is addressing the United Nations in New Yor k (on the left), conferring with Henry Kissinger in Washington (top rig ht), or exchanging views with his Soviet counterpart, Andrei Gromyko, i n Bonn (bottom right), the versatile free democrat doesn't hestate to g o to considerable extents o put the foreign policies of the Social Libe ral coalition government under the aegis of Chancellor Helmut Schmidt i nto action. All the same, the Hamburg party convention of the FDP also demostrated that he knows how to keep an eye on the goings-on within hi s party. The assembled delegates selected him as the new Party Chairman with a vote of 276 to 58 with 22 abstentions.
