And better suited to the anatomical features of infants is this new x-ray machine for children designed by Siemens in Munich (Federal Repub lic of Germany). The so-called "infaaaantscope" has specially designed emplacement contours for holding the infant and for transporting him in to the required roentgen position. The radiological machine functions o n the principle of "indirect x-ray exposure amplification technique". T his amounts to a substantially reduced radiation dosage when compared w ith conventional roentgen apparatuses. X-rays are irreplaceable in the precise diagonisis of numerous infant disorders, from bone anomalies to congenital heart defects. Adults machines were used until now, with th e baby usually bellowing and wriggling heatedly, having to be manually held infront of the x-ray instrument. Such radiographs ususally amounte d to ordeals for mother, child, and assisting nurse.
