Summary: Beyong the conflict is a short video documentary, assessing the impa ct of conflict and war in Nothern Uganda, on basic education in the con flict and post conlict areas, covering 18 districtsSummary: In a situation where about 1,000 teachers have been killed or have f led; atleast 30,000 school age children abducted, many have been killed ; 600 schools destroyed or simply abandoned due to insecurity; communi ties shattered and forced to live in squalid conditions in makeshift ca mps with inadequate food ratios and poor sanitation, still faced with threats of being killed even from within the camps; nearly a million ch ildren malnourished and jammed into makeshift learning centers; where t he pupil teacher ratio is about 250 to 1 in the public schools; and par ents for lack of economic activities have no income and cannot send the ir children to the private schools. What quality of education can anyon e talk about here, for majority of the children?Summary: The documentary is a story of triumph in the face of helplessness in duced by a mysterious war which has gone on for two decades. Triumph by many formerly abducted children who managed to return to school to pur sue primary education despite their predicaments. Some of them, now chi ld mothers attend school with their babies; thousands of orphans displa ced from their home districts have become household heads and must work after school to be able to feed themselves. So many were abused, moles ted, turned into child soldiers; some others are ambush and landmine su rvivors physically shattered, hut determined to pursue education, altho ugh they are on their own.Summary: The government (central and local), donors, civil society organisati ons and other stakeholders have intervened by supporting education, as an enabling human right, and other aspects of conflict related programm es geared at achieving Education for All and the Millenium Development Goals.
