Facing AIDS is a series of films promoting discussion and openness i n the fight against AIDS. Each film tells the story of an individual wh o in his or her daily life is facing different aspects of the pandemic. Through their own initiativ and efforts they try to take action agains t the problem and give hope for the future. The films are produced by t he UNICEF country offices in Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

The orphans is the story about Samuel and his sisters and brothers, who have lost both parents and an elder sister due to AIDS. Since then their daily life has become a constant struggle to survive-to find food , clothes, school books and all the other things that they used to get from the parents. As the oldest brother Samuel has a heavy burden on hi s shoulders. His relation to his wife Esther, with whom he has a small baby, is complicated as well. Fiona is suffering from deep depression a s a result of all the traumatic experiences she has had in her young li fe. Her dream is to get a school uniform and a pair of shoes. In Uganda there are an estimated 2.5 million orphans, and Samuel asks the minist er responsible what the government is doing to make their life easier. The film tells a very personal and moving story about various problems related to HIV/AIDS.
